According to ProCopywriters, the average day rate for a freelance copywriter in 2024 was £440. Rates are determined by a number of factors: where you live, any specialism needed, the industries a writer works in, and so on.
My current daily rate is £250.
It’s significantly less than the average mentioned above for a few reasons:
I’ve been a copywriter for years, but have only recently gone freelance, so appealing to new clients is important to me!
I live in a relatively affordable location.
I’d love to work with smaller, independent companies, start-ups, the cultural and heritage sectors, and charities, and I know budgets can be tighter in these areas.

A professional writer will add value to the content you put out. That might be the text for your website, blog posts, brochures, adverts, display panels, or e-newsletters, to name a few.
Writers harness rhetorical devices, current trends, and experience of what does and doesn’t resonate with audiences to create powerful written content. This helps you to find clients and engage your audiences.

A content writer creates text to inform, educate or simply entertain an audience. This covers a wide range of written content, from blog posts and website text to information boards and instruction manuals.
A copywriter is a type of content writer, who creates written content designed to directly influence consumers – usually to sell a product. For example, an advert for an upcoming event or a product description in a brochure.

SEO stands for ‘search engine optimisation’.
It’s the practice of improving a website’s ranking on search engine results pages (such as Google). The better a website’s SEO, the higher it’ll appear.
Writers can optimise your website content for certain search engine queries related to your industry. For example, a New York City bakery might want to create content that ranks for the search query ‘best New York City bakeries’.
Optimised blog articles are a particularly great way to improve SEO over time.
